May's Feature Artist at JMAC: Alejandra Fourier
May’s featured artist at the James Memorial Art Center is Alejandra Fourier. Fourier was born in San Jose Costa Rica in 1979. Even though she has had a profound interest in art ever since she was a child, she graduated from the Universidad Interamericana with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. As a woman with interests outside of an office, she decided the beginning of 2010 to dedicate her time to the love of her life, and started working full time with her art. With the help of different art groups, and art classes, she opened her senses to different mediums and techniques. In 2011 she joined a group of printers called “The Solitary Frame”. This group is run by Jorge Crespo, very well known both nationally and internationally for his beautiful contributions in Latin American art. She is presently enrolled in the University for the sciences and art and hoping to have her first art degree the middle of next year. Alejandra works are mainly in the areas of stamping and mono typing, but in many occasions utilizes several techniques together to create what she is trying to achieve. Her stamping is done on many mediums such as on acrylic, copper sheet, wood, and box board. She often creates her bases using resins and added textures to bring out colors and depth to her works. Alejandra lives in Guachepelin, a suburb of San Jose, Costa Rica, with her husband, Samuel Gjorven of Williston North Dakota and their soon to be born son. The James Memorial Art Center is located at 621 First Avenue West in Williston. The Gallery is open Tuesday – Friday from 8 am – 1 pm and Sunday from 1 – 5 pm. This exhibition is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 701-774-3601.
