Mercy Medical Center’s Children’s Health Fair
9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Raymond Family Community Center. Approximately 250 third grade students from District 1, District 8, Home School, Trinity, St. Joseph’s, and Trenton schools will be attending. Throughout the day, they will attend 16 interactive and informative booths to participate and learn about safe and healthy lifestyle choices. Local agencies that have collaborated with us on this initiative include ND Highway Patrol, Upper Missouri District Health Unit, Community Action/Region I Safe Communities, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Williston Fire & Ambulance Department, and Williston Public School District and various departments from Mercy Medical Center.

3rd Annual Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Pr
Williston's 3rd Annual Out of the Darkness Walk for Suicide Prevention is Saturday, September 18th in Spring Lake Park at the Keel Boat. Registration is from 10 - 11 AM and the walk will be from 11 AM - Noon follwed by closing ceremony and refreshments. Get your teams together! JMAC Art Fest 2010
Come enjoy the JMAC Art Fest 2010 Dreamin' Dakota 11am-4pm at Recreation Park (400 block of 2nd Ave. West, Williston). The festival will include art vendors, food vendors, and live entertainment. Over 20 unique pieces of art depicting the past, present, and future of North Dakota will be auctioned off at 1:30 pm. Entertainment throughout the day.

Threads on the Prairie Quilt Show
Dakota Prairie Quilters Guild's “Threads on the Prairie” Quilt Show will be held at James Memorial Arts Center, 621 First Avenue West, Williston, ND, September 18th through 26th. Show dates and hours are as follows: Saturday, September 18: 10 am to 6 pm; Sunday, September 19: 12 - 5 pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, September 21, 22, 23: 8 - 4 pm; Friday, September 24: 1 - 6 pm; Saturday, September 25: 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, September 26: 12 - 4 pm. Special exhibits this year include featured quilters Diana Basol, Evelyn Holmes, and Edith Senti; guild “sisters” themed challenge quilts; and a small quilt art exhibit titled “Singing in the Choir”. A white elephant sale featuring barely used quilting related items will be available at the show and raffle tickets for the guild’s basket themed raffle quilt will be available until drawing at 3 pm on Sunday, September 26th. Admission at the door is $2.00. All quilters are invited to enter. Pick up entry forms at The Bent Pin quilt store in Williston or contact Mary Olson 701-464-5886 or Ginger Mitchell 701-572-5389 to have forms mailed.

The North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is partnering with several state agencies to hold Business Update Webinars in September and October.

Wednesday, September 22 at 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Central Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI) will be discussing proposed legislation for the 2011 Legislative Session as well as programs that can assist your company with safety issues and reduce your WSI premiums. They will also cover the steps employers need to go through when a worker's compensation claim has been filed by an employee.

Cost is $25 per webinar or $80 for all four for any ND Chamber or local chamber member and $50 per webinar or $160 for all four for any business that is not a member of the ND Chamber or a local chamber.

The North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is partnering with several state agencies to hold Business Update Webinars in September and October.

Wednesday, September 29 at 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Central ~ Job Service North Dakota Unemployment Division will cover:
•UI EASY - an employer online application/tool. Topics covered will be filing reports, new functionality (quite a few new items employers will like), and future changes
• Corporate Officer Exemption from unemployment insurance
• Unemployment Insurance Cost Containment
• A review of legislative changes made last session that affects employers (primarily the amendment to statute that requires employers with 25 or more employers to report electronically

This day will focus on the people aspect of community and economic development as communities share best practices and network with one another.
Nationally recognized experts, Don Macke and Kim Huston, will address attendees with their advice and experience. Additional sharing will be done through keynote addresses, panel discussions, group interaction, networking, and booth displays.
Community Field Day will be held October 5, 2010 from 9:30 - 4:30 at the Badlands Activity Center on the DSU campus.

The North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is partnering with several state agencies to hold Business Update Webinars in September and October.

Wednesday, October 6 at 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Central ~ North Dakota Child Support will provide information on employer requirements in the areas of: • Reporting new hires, terminations, temporary absences and lump sum payments
• Remitting child support payments (i.e., income withholding)
• Enrolling children in their parents' health insurance plans

ND Chamber Business Update Webinar
The North Dakota Chamber of Commerce is partnering with several state agencies to hold Business Update Webinars in September and October.

Wednesday, October 13 at 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Central ~ North Dakota Tax Department Sales & Use Tax Division The North Dakota Tax Department will address the filing of sales tax returns using the web file system and its' advantages and the paper ST sales tax return form for state and local taxes. Other topics to be discussed include: gross receipts, nontaxable sales, reciprocity, use tax issues for businesses and contractors, exempt sales and the use of the new streamlined exemption certificate, local nexus issues and information on different types of retail transactions both taxable/exempt including leasing and renting situations. The applicability of sales tax to contractors and exempt entities will also be reviewed.
